Teaching Speaking

Hello! Welcome back to another entry👽

I was looking for photos from this class, but honestly I didn't find any on my cellphone, apparently I didn't take photos😢

However, here it is a summary about teaching speaking by Jeremy Harmer, in which we discussed about some activities, such as, role playing, simulation, and real play.

Dimensions of Speaking

1.      Transactional or Interpersonal

2.      Interactive or Non-interactive

3.      Planned or Unplanned

Ex: A Job Interview à largely transactional, interactive, and planned.

The roles of the teacher in a Speaking Lesson

·        Prompter

·        Participant

·        Feedback Provider

It is recommended to introduce the functional language at the beginning of the speaking class. In this way, students will be able to use it successfully later in the class.

Teaching Writing

Hi, everyone! Welcome to another blog's entry😆

Its important to mention that writing involves many different aspects. It is useful to look at them under these headings:

1. Handwriting

2. Spelling

3. Punctuation

4. Sentence construction

5. Organizing a text and paragraphing

6. Text cohesion

7. Register / style

While teaching writing, a teacher's role can be as:

1) Monitor

2) Resource

3) Feedback provider

We also had these activities, where we were asked to do these writing exercises that we used to do when we were starting to learn how to write properly or just to improve our handwriting, and it was kind of funny at the same time, since nowadays we type everything digitally, so my hand was a little sore after that.

And in this one, we were asked to write about the best day of our lives. In my case, it is very complicated to talk about this, since I have many pending plans that I want to do in life and that I have not been able to do due to lack of free time. However, one of my colleagues reminded me of the time I went to a concert last December, and the truth is that I was very happy that night, since I waited for that concert almost the entire year, I didn't have my tickets until a few weeks before the concert, so being able to go was very surprising for me, and I enjoyed it very much.

I think that would be all for this entry. Hope you liked it!

Body language & coordination, and improvisation

This blog entry begins after Nidia's participation in the middle of class on Thursday, May 4. In which we had some fun activities, such as walking as a model throughout the classroom and basically following our teacher's instructions.

Here are Fer and Nath practicing their modeling skills, they look like professional models already. 😂

Then we have Dani, trying to make the person in front of her laugh, doing some funny moves.😅

So, basically, the activities were as follow:

a. Keeping focus

 * Keeping eye contact with the person in front of you while being serious

                * Keeping eye contact with one person as you walk around the classroom

b. Expressing emotions with your face and body

* Trying to make the person in front of you laugh out loud

                * Walking as a model around the classroom as you change your sight: angry, happy, sad   eyes, etc.

*Complimenting your classmates as you walk around the classroom

c. Improvisation

*Improvising the scene of a movie

                * Improvising a scene depending on the background sound

                * Saying bye with speech and movement

Then, on Tuesday, May 9, I couldn't come to class because I was delayed with another assignment I had to bring in that same day. So, unfortunately, I missed the activity related to improvising a movie scene. But my friends, shared with me a video of their movie scene, which was from the Sherk 1 movie, where the little coockie man is being held back by the prince, as he was looking to marry a princess.

Here is Kennet representing one of the princesses.😂

And here we have Dani in his role of the cookie man whose name I don't remember, and Fer was the prince trying to get some information out of him. This is exactly the moment when he spits in the prince's face. 😂😂😂

And I think that would be all for my entry for this week. I hope you enjoyed it. And I'm sorry for the confusion as I didn't notice that my entry was empthy. 😅

"Voice Projection"

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the blog for this week!😀

In this class we did some voice projection exercises. Lic Orlando started with some imitations of the TV show "Ugly Betty".

Then, we watched this YouTube video and were asked to stand up and practice some of the exercises explained in the video.

Some of the exercises were a lot of fun, as we had to imitate a woman's voice and the girls had to imitate a man's voice.

Then, we did two lines, we had to stand in front of another classmate and follow the teacher's instructions. For example, we would put a pencil in our mouth and try to talk to the other person in front of us, or we had to go backwards and try to talk upwards so they could hear us, in the end it was about trying to have a normal conversation but with some difficulties to practice our articulation and breathing.

Then on Thrusdays class, we watched this video about the three basic intentions of commercial locution, in which we learned about institutional intention, sales-focused intention and natural intention.

We were then asked to read this sentence with the three intentions, which made us laugh, as most of us were not used to projecting these types of voices.

Afterwards, our classmate Nidia approached all the groups and gave us her feedback on voice projection, since she is a radio hostess and has years of experience in this field, so she told us what aspects we could improve and how we could pronounce the words better.

There she gave us more tips and shared her experience over the years with her profession. She also showed us a commercial video in which she was the announcer. The amazing thing, is that the video was from about 6 years ago and sounded very good and professional, so in my case I was surprised that she has been a very talented person for a long time and now she has mastered her skill even more.

Last Entry Groups 7 & 8 (Nov 9th)

Welcome to my last Didactics II entry. I have to admit it, but I feel a little sad that everything has come to an end, especially this class...
